An Open Letter To All Startup Entrepreneurs

Dear StartUp Entrepreneurs,

Stop trying to make the world a better place. Recently I was watching the HBO TV show “Silicon Valley” and during the final two episodes they show the reality of the TechCrunch Disrupt conference, where every startup claims that they are going to make the world a better place.  Let’s be honest here: better UX is not going to solve world hunger or bring clean water to third world countries.  Unless you are creating the next Doctors without Borders or your technology will lead to peace in the middle East, it is high time that you and your team have a startup reality check. Stop.  Just stop.

Instead of claiming to make the world a better place, you should be emphasizing what it is that you do best and why you are uniquely qualified to bring this solution to market. Ideas are a dime a dozen, but the people who can execute on ideas are worth their weight in gold.  Focus on what you do best by sharing your passion.  Package up that passion with a startup team that can get the job done and you have a recipe for success that will be appealing to every investor in the market.

You’re welcome!
